Get ready for the weekend.

Thank you all for your dedication and commitment to serving on the worship team. Your passion and talent contribute so much to our church community, and we’re excited to see what God has in store for us this weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out. Let's make this week of preparation count. You got this!

DRESS CODE

Our goal is to help set the tone for worship and complement the service. We should avoid causing unnecessary distractions through our actions or dress. This includes making sure you are well groomed and your clothing ironed. We want you to be comfortable, but we also want the people around you to be comfortable too. If you step over the bounds of this guide, your leader will alert you. They’re on your side and looking out for you as well as the church.

WELCOME TO JOURNEY WORSHIP!

We are so excited for the opportunity to serve alongside you and look forward to getting to know you better as we all serve together. You are extremely valuable to us, and we are so grateful for the time, energy, and prayer you are dedicating to our team!

At the heart of our team is a desire to glorify God and encourage our House through worship. We believe that worship, as a lifestyle, is our response to the revelation of a holy God. When we gather, we respond to God’s radical grace through extravagant worship all to the praise of His glory. We also embrace the responsibility and mantle the Lord has placed on us to be His vessels. We pray that your time on our team would spur you on further in prayer, worship, intimacy with God and a growth in your walk. Additionally, we pray that this team would be a family to you! There is immense value in nurturing healthy relationships with one another as God is glorified when His people are unified.

This handbook includes a directory of our leaders and staff, so you know who oversees each room and recognize our faces! We are all a resource for you, whether it is anything from technical questions to spiritual care. Additionally, the bulk of this handbook outlines detailed information regarding everything you need to know about serving on our team. Again, thank you for being a part, and If you have any questions, feel free to email WORSHIP@JOURNEYORL.COM.

What an honor it is to do what we love, serve in this capacity, and point people’s eyes up to Jesus and the finished work of the cross. We are excited to see the ways God uses you to minister to our House.

Exciting days ahead!

Jason Garcia, Executive Director of Experience and Worship

Preparation

Coming prepared is crucial for fostering excellence, unity, and flexibility. Preparation demonstrates commitment to the team and respect for the worship experience, allowing for smooth rehearsals and cohesive performances that honor God and serve the congregation well.

When each member knows their parts and is ready to adapt, it creates an atmosphere where the Holy Spirit can move freely, and becomes the foundation to innovate song arrangements musically through creative expression.

All Worship Team members are expected to know their parts and arrangements by rehearsing with the Playback app and using resources that are available on PCO.

Colossians 3:23 urges, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." This underscores the importance of giving our best in all endeavors, including musical preparation for worship.

MID-WEEK REHEARSALS

With every Sunday Service, you will be expected to be a part of our mid-week rehearsals. Rehearsal dates are attached to your PCO requests. Please be sure to look at your full availability (including the rehearsal) before accepting any dates. For all other events, we typically do not have an additional rehearsal outside of the few hours before the event (Prayer Services), but on the occasion we do have some extended rehearsals (Encounter Nights), we will do our best to notify you as soon as we know.

CANCELLATIONS / SICK / RUNNING LATE

When you are scheduled, please know we are counting on you and asking that you make every effort to be on time. If you happen to ever run late, contact your band or vocal coordinator directly and not in the weekly group chat. If you are feeling sick, contact your environment point person as soon as possible so we can find a replacement for that day. You are placed in a very unique leading role, so last minute cancellations are not acceptable with the exception of emergencies, unforeseen events, and illnesses.

Call Times

Call times will be found within your PCO
plan for the services for which you are rostered, and in our weekly group chats. Call times are when we’re expected to be on stage ready to go, not walk in the door. Please ensure that you leave margin to travel, park, get in the building, get your coffee (if needed), pick up your pack, get plugged in, tune, etc., by your call times. Sometimes, due to things outside of our control, start time for sound checks may get delayed, but please do what you can to be on time and ready on your end.

IN-EAR MONITORS (IEMS)

When playing in most of our environments, our team uses in-ear monitors. We require everyone to bring their own professional IEMs when they play or sing. Every team member’s IEMs must be approved by the campus MD.

We offer a backup in-ear monitors as a one time option in the case that in-ears break. We do not issue backup in-ears if you have already borrowed in-ears, or if you forgot to bring your own. It is recommended to have a backup set of in-ears.

If borrowing a pair from our team, you will need to trade in your car keys with the Campus Worship Director. Following the gatherings, simply return the in-ears and trade them back in for your car keys.

Below, you can find a link to purchase our recommended entry-level in-ears:

GREEN ROOM

Before our services, we gather together to eat, build community and pray in what is called the “green room”. The purpose of the green room is primarily for those things and not a place to simply hang out.

We encourage our team to remain accessible and visible in places like the lobby or the outside awning and throughout other parts of our building, not just in the green room. Because of this and wanting to be present in the gatherings, we discourage our team from being in the green room all day or outside of your rostered event.

Other things to note - Meals are only for rostered team members scheduled for the day. Spouses are welcome to join for prayer, but they have not been included in the meal count for the day.

ENVIRONMENT/ STAGE PRESENCE

In our services, we are trying to create an atmosphere that reflects the joy and life of Christ. When we are celebrating, we don’t want you to “perform,” but we do want to encourage being expressive and engaged.
We want you to be honest and genuine. The more engaged you are, the more we get to help free up others. Free people free people! There will also be worshipful moments full of reverence and awe. We want you to grow to be sensitive to what the Lord is doing and help lead others to respond, all the while maintaining the balance of worshiping WHILE leading - not being so lost in our worship that we forget to take people with us, keeping our eyes open (both spiritually and physically), and outwardly expressing what God has ALREADY done in us.
